私は、学生時代、哲学者ではデカルトの言葉が好きだった、詩ではシャークスピアのアイアンビックペンタミター; iambic pentameterが気に入っていました。
Cogito
When thought awakes, I know that I am here,
The mind lights proof the body can’t deny.
Though time has spilled its milk beyond repair,
No tears can teach the fallen drops to fly.
I choose the step that answers doubt with breath,
For thinking moves where silence once was stone.
What’s done is done; it keeps its honest death,
Yet meaning grows where will is all I own.
If music feeds the heart, then reason chews
On bitter facts and makes a human sound.
I stand by thought, and by that standing choose
To walk ahead, not circle what I found.
Think, then be; let broken hours agree:
We are, because we think—and let it be, so.
